GBHA Announcements

The Greenwich Blues Hockey Association (GBHA) continues to build an experienced and positive coaching staff, including Hockey Director Brett Farson, who will continue on with the Blues for his fifth year during the 2016-2017 season.

Brett has passionately advocated for the Greenwich Blues, helping attract new families and high-level coaches to the organization. As the Blues’ Mite Director in 2014-15, he ran ADM practices with all Mite players and coaches to focus on skill development from the ground up. Click here for link to USA Hockey article ‘ADM Keeps Greenwich Blues Moving’.

In addition to the Greenwich Blues, Brett has been a major contributor to youth hockey in Fairfield County for over 10 years, serving as CHC Associate Coach in Chief for USA Hockey from 2010-2012. Three of his former Mite and Squirt players are committed to play Division I college hockey, including the captain of the USA Hockey 16U National Team in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

At GBHA Brett has coached at the Squirt B, Squirt A and Bantam A levels, helping the Blues capture the Squirt Tier 3 NE title in 2013-2014. For more info on Coach Farson’s coaching bio with the recent addition of King School’s first FAA championship, click here

Congratulations to Brett Farson on five years with GBHA as both Hockey Director and coach.  We look forward to his continued success with the Blues in 2016-2017 season!

                         CHIEF COACH

 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

GREENWICH, CT – 12 April 2016

The Greenwich Blues Hockey Association is excited to announce that former NY Ranger great, defenseman Tom Laidlaw (b April 1958)  has been appointed Chief Coach of the Blues’ Hockey organization.  Laidlaw, of whom NY Islanders legendary coach Al Arbour  said  “He almost never makes a mistake”, will have the primary responsibility of building the Blues player development program through improvements to internal structure and development of the coaching staff.

Laidlaw will focus on coaching techniques and “ice utilization”, where his ultimate goal will to be to build THE best youth coaching staff in the region.

Laidlaw, born in Brampton, Ontario, Canada first came to US hockey fans’ attention during his 4 seasons playing at Northern Michigan University.  Between 1979 and 1991 he played for the NY Rangers and LA Kings.

Laidlaw was selected to the All-NCAA tournament team in 1980.  He also was CCHA First All-Star in 1979 and 1980.  During his first 4 seasons in the NHL he played in 320 games, missing only two games.

After his stellar NHL career Laidlaw went on to become a prominent NHL player’s agent and entrepreneur.

The Greenwich Blues Hockey Association is a lower Fairfield county organization with 10 teams in 5 divisions.  The players range from the age of 6 to 14, both boys and girls, and are selected from the community based on a competitive tryout format solely based on player ability.  There are currently about 150 players on the 10 teams from throughout the lower Fairfield county and Westchester communities.

The Blues season runs from early September through mid-March where they play against teams from throughout CT and the entire northeast region.
